Classes

Classes are geared towards all levels, ages and abilities and are based on a Hatha Flow Yoga style. Instruction taps into the needs, abilities and interests of all students. Yoga practise goes beyond simply moving through poses- it incorporates the breath, setting intentions, and aims to connect the mind and body in a peaceful and meditative way.

What to bring to class

Yoga is a wonderful practice because you really don't need anything to do it. Most people, however, do like to have mats for comfort. Yoga mats can be purchased in many stores these days and range from $15-over $100. You pick the mat that fits your budget. There will be two extra mats for loan at each class. Small pillows to help support you during seated postures are also other ways to add comfort to your practise. Lastly, water bottles are great to have beside your mat.

What to wear

Remember that you want to be comfortable. Loose fitting or stretchy clothing is best, but also keep in mind, if you have a very loose fitting shirt, some poses (like downward dog) might let your top hang a little too loose and gape open. Yoga is done barefoot, so no shoes or socks required.

Are you a yoga newbie?

Many stories and mythologies surround yoga, but simply put, yoga is bringing together movement with the breath. We won't be doing headstands right away or wrapping our body into a pretzel, so you can toss the thought that you need to arrive flexible and ready to roll. Your first class might seem daunting, but I assure you no one leaves saying, "I wish I stayed home on the couch." Remember, it takes time to learn something new and giving yourself the gift of opportunity and keeping an open mind is the best approach you can have.
